Can non-Whitworth community members use the library or check out books?

Answer

Community users are welcome in the library until 5:00pm (after 5:00pm the building is ID card swipe-access only).

Alumni and community users may apply in-person for a library card for borrowing privileges. The community user annual fee is $40. Official Washington state ID and local mailing street address verification are required. Annual fee is waived for local, active ministers with proof of current position, such as a business card.

Guest and alumni users may check out up to 3 books for 3 weeks, no renewals.

Guests do not have access to reserve materials, Summit borrowing, Interlibrary Loan services, study room reservations, printing, or electronic collections/databases. Guests are welcome to use scanners (including saving scans a flash drive or emailing the scans to themselves) for free.

Computer Use: While we are not a public library, the Cowles Memorial Library welcomes Whitworth alumni and other visitors to the building during our designated business hours. Visitors may use their own device on the guest Wi-Fi. Access to selected computers near the reference desk on the first floor is available for searching the Library’s catalog or brief web research. Priority on all computers is given to academic and research activity. Please be considerate of other users and restrict recreational or casual personal use.
